Press Release

(New York, N.Y. – June 14, 2023) The Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, the largest non-profit animal hospital in the world, announced another banner year for patient visits. AMC’s 20+ specialties and services accommodated 54,281 visits for dogs, cats, and exotic pets, including 20,000 visits to AMC’s 24/7 Emergency Room, the only Level 1 Veterinary Trauma Center in New York City, and one of only five worldwide. The figures were just released in AMC’s 2022 Year of Comprehensive Care report, available at amcny.gbtesting.us/YOCC2022.

To meet increased demand for patient care, AMC is expanding its clinical team, welcoming eight new Senior Veterinarians in 2022, bringing the total number of veterinarians to 133 of which 43 are board-certified. The hospital also crossed the halfway mark of its transformational expansion and renovation project to increase clinical capabilities and capacity, including the addition of a state-of-the-art linear accelerator in its revamped radiation oncology suite.

“The veterinary industry is changing rapidly, and I’m incredibly proud of how our team continues to embrace the evolving landscape and the unprecedented demand for our services,” said Helen M. Irving, RN, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer of AMC. “Everyone at AMC is an expert in their role, and their dedication to our mission of world-class veterinary care ensures we’ll be able to navigate any challenge or opportunity that comes our way. AMC has been a leader in veterinary medicine and an institution in New York City for more than 100 years, and the work we’re doing today ensures that legacy will continue for another century and more.”

AMC also continued to fulfill its mission of charitable care, postgraduate education, and pioneering research by providing nearly $4.4 million in donated care, welcoming 30 new interns, and publishing 29 peer-reviewed clinical articles by AMC staff that will help drive advancements in veterinary medicine.
