Pilot studies to evaluate thermographic imaging and manual muscle testing to assess hindlimb strength in dogs

Purpose

Measurement of hindlimb muscle temperature, called thermography, may have clinical value, but this technique has not yet received much attention in the dog. Also, muscle strength testing is widely used by physical and occupational therapists, but has received little attention in veterinary medicine.

We will examine the value of thermography (a safe noninvasive test) to measure changes in superficial hind leg muscle temperature and also perform a safe, painless manual muscle test. This information may help devise studies that detect early muscle strain in dogs.

Eligibility

Must be a healthy, Pit bull or Pit bull mix dog between 8 months-8 years old.
